Care Can't Wait
TIME’S UP: “Caregiving IS Infrastructure”
Caregiving, Equity, Public Policy, TIME'S UP Impact Lab
This Saturday, April 10 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET, leaders and advocates from the Care Can’t Wait coalition will be hosting a Virtual Summit, featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and other prominent guests, as a rallying cry for major federal investments in caregiving.
It comes after yesterday’s virtual event featuring U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and our nation’s leading advocates for women and families. Hosted by MomsRising and moderated by TIME’S UP Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer Monifa Bandele, the webinar covered how to access the new benefits that just recently passed in the American Rescue Plan, such as the Child Tax Credit, unemployment compensation, and paid leave credits for businesses.
Tina Tchen, president and CEO of TIME’S UP Foundation, provided the following statement:
“Caregiving IS infrastructure — and it is essential to our economic recovery. In fact, recent TIME’S UP research shows that investing in a robust care infrastructure would create millions of jobs, while building a more equitable and inclusive economy.
“That’s why I’m so excited about the American Rescue Plan, which demonstrates a historic commitment to investing in the broad spectrum of care. TIME’S UP is looking forward to working with Speaker Pelosi and other national leaders to build on this momentum and create permanent care solutions so that our nation’s caregivers, businesses, and national economy can thrive.”
- TIME’S UP Foundation released research finding that investing $77.5 billion per year in our care infrastructure would support over 2 million new jobs. Annually, a $77.5 billion investment in new jobs translates into $220 billion in new economic activity.
- Eight in 10 voters say unsupported caregiving is a huge burden for families (TIME’S UP Foundation/GSG) and a third of voters and half of parents say their responsibilities increased (LRP/PU).
- Ninety percent of voters say a comprehensive caregiving solution is important (TIME’S UP Foundation/GSG) and 72% of voters say investing in modern care infrastructure is an essential part of COVID-19 recovery (TIME’S UP Now/Lake Research Partners-Tarrance Group).
