Justice for Survivors
TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund Releases 2019 Annual Report
Safety, Survivors, TIME'S UP Legal Defense Fund
According to its 2019 Annual Report, the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund – an initiative of TIME’S UP Foundation – has connected over 4,000 people to attorneys and committed to spending nearly $11 million on over 250 legal cases to help people fight for equality and respect at work. The Fund has also given sexual harassment education and outreach grants to 18 organizations serving low-paid workers with high unmet needs around the country.
Tina Tchen, president and CEO of TIME’S UP Foundation, provided the following statement:
“The TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund emerged from an international moment of reckoning when women across industries and geographies came together and decided to turn their pain into action. Since then, the Fund has made a difference in the lives of thousands of workers by connecting them to legal support in the aftermath of sexual harassment or assault on the job.
“The progress this unprecedented Fund has made in two short years is nothing short of transformational for the workers they help. Because of the Fund’s tireless work on behalf of survivors, we are moving closer to a future where assailants are held accountable and all workers have safe and dignified workplaces, no exceptions.”
Housed and administered by the National Women’s Law Center Fund, all operations of the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund are completely independent of the TIME’S UP Foundation and TIME’S UP Now. Decisions about cases, eligibility, and funding are made by TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund staff at the National Women’s Law Center Fund, based on a rigorous evaluation against a consistent set of guidelines that are in no way influenced by any outside agenda, person, organization, or entity.
