The People of New York vs. Harvey Weinstein
Today and every day, TIME’S UP is in solidarity with the dozens of survivors who have come forward about the sexual abuse they endured at the hands of Harvey Weinstein. Because of their courage, a small measure of justice has been achieved.
The survivors who broke their silence about Harvey Weinstein did so at great personal and professional cost, and they catalyzed a worldwide reckoning for justice. With them, TIME’S UP will continue to fight until all people are safe and respected at work, period.
On Monday, February 24, 2020, a jury of seven men and five women found Weinstein guilty of a criminal sex act in the first degree and rape in the third degree. On Wednesday, March 11, 2020, Judge James Burke sentenced Harvey Weinstein to 23 years in prison for his crimes.
Proceeding separately is another criminal case brought by the Los Angeles District Attorney involving charges of “forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by use of force, and sexual battery,” an ongoing investigation by British authorities, federal sex trafficking charges, and about a dozen civil lawsuits related to sexual harassment, sexual assault, and retaliation.
